Reclaim the Streets movement originally shares the idea of community ownership of public spaces. This project is exploring shared space by standing still on the streets while capturing photos on film.

Pinhole photography requires ultra-long exposure time from minutes to hours. In this project it ranges from 5 to 20 minutes. It is an urban meditation, and resistance, standing still by a wooden box while the surrounding world runs around.

The project is a research of urban spaces, role of a citizen and perception of time, exploring shared but defined space. Photos taken on the streets of sedate, silent Turku (FI) and vivid, congested Amsterdam (NL).

Parts of the project

Close-up of an old building wall with overlayed shadows of trees, tones of purple that makes it to feel like taken with expired film or otherwise a bit obscure.
Abandoned Wall (2018 FI) – multiple exposure, 35 mm film

A street with shops and restaurants, without any visible humans, just a few shadow-like characters. Image with purple tone, looking like an old photo.
Amsterdam-Centrum at 5 pm (2019 NL) – ultra-long exposure, 35 mm film

Two shadows of possible humans overlapping with an image of passage with wide arc over it, all toned with purple to make it feel a bit out of this reality.
Busy byway (2019 NL) – multiple exposure, 35 mm film
