nonlinear narrative, interdisciplinary, place-making, non-human agents
All kinds of beings, those who move materials, grow in one place, those who look for a new living space. Something always sticks to another, cracks, grows and is reflected on the surface of another, nothing develops in isolation.
Resilientem rediscovers abandoned space in between realities, the sharing of space, different kinds of familiar and unknown creatures. There is movement and gestures in the words and images, they reach each other through a flexible and persistent way, sometimes frictionally, sometimes caressing, sometimes indifferently overlapping each other.
Is the goal to find a state where nothing causes resettlement and movement anymore, or should we stay in slow motion, constant resettling?
The starting point of the work was in process-based artistic research in virtual poetry as a collective memory trace and the effects of the glitchy digital connection on senses and experiences, funded by Kone Foundation (Koneen Säätiö), 2022.
The video installation Resilientem combines image, originally hand-written poetic text and sound, it is assembled with small animations made with different creative coding programs and video post-production. The material consists of field recordings during residencies in Berlin, Helsinki, near the Paljakka natural forest (Mustarinda), Linz and Turku botanical gardens.
Thank you Pauliina Haasjoki and Nomi Sasaki. Supported by the Kone Foundation. The conceptual and field work started in the Mustarinda residency in April 2022, thank you for the space and insights, and all cohabitants. The final textual and visual work was realised in the TAKT Berlin-Leipzig residency in December 2022 – April 2023. Ars Libera was the very first space to host the fresh installation in May 2023, thank you for the space and trust.
