Tangible images and glitching walls

30.10.2023

In October I worked with Zaratan Art Centre in Lisbon in an artist residency.

I was working on the concept and visuals of my upcoming project in virtual space. During my stay I connected with the community of artists by participating in an experimental lab for two weeks, and taking part in openings and talks.

I worked with clay moulds, scanned them and covered them with virtual video textures. These textures were field recordings around Lisbon, especially in parks and botanical sites. The varied shapes of these clay moulds were inspired by some ancient utility items I saw for example in the Museu Geológico.

My project is based on the work that I have done in recent years closely with virtual poetry, video art and installation. These works can be understood as space-making or as a research of agency.

In the end I discussed my artistic journey in a public talk with the other resident, amazing drag artist Maria Norrman, and as a short exhibition. I published a limited edition poster and participated in the group exhibition Em Obras with all the lovely beings of the local community of artists I got to know during my stay.

I fully enjoyed working there, here are some images to follow through.
