To Imagine Their Outlines
(Kuvitella ääriviivansa)
2022
exhibition installation, artistic research
To Imagine Their Outlines is an exploration to see the change rather as an experimental becoming than external development.
The works linger between virtual domains and actuality. Plants are experimenting their surroundings and other beings. The 3D rendered matter as a video seems to be searching for its form infinitely. By examining other beings is to understand our human selves as part of the natural systems and the effects of interaction.
Humans are not fixed or linear, but constantly unfolding species in states of ages, roles, cultures and genders.
How do we share proximity where everything is not predefined?
The exhibition consists of a video projection Protruding Cavity (2021), hydroponic plants with proximity sensors and programmed LED lights. The plants react to proximity and movement with slowly changing LEDs similar to breathing.
The artistic research was part of wider work focused on endogenous experiences over promoted ones that strives to dismantle the structures and divisions that define our society.
The production of Protruding Cavity was supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
The Sensuous Society
The exhibition was part and inside The Institute of Coexistence, curated by Mikkel Elming (DK). The physical and theoretical framework was created by artist Gry Worre Hallberg (DK).
The framework is reflecting society where the sensuous and poetic mode of being is at the centre of all interaction between humans and other species.
Institute of Coexistence is created in response to the current ecological, social, and biological crises, the aim is to reflect on and investigate alternative ways of coexistence.
The institute was divided into two forms: in a solo exhibition in turn and in a showcase reflecting on the artistic research.
The exhibitions were realised in cooperation with WAM, Turku City Art Museum (FI).
